What does a school trustee do?
School trustees sit on the Board of Education for Sea to Sky School District 48, which runs public schools from Squamish to Pemberton. The board sets local policy for how schools run, sets student conduct policy, hires district staff and sets conditions of employment. [source]
The board has 7 trustees: 2 from Squamish, 2 from Whistler, 1 from Pemberton and 1 each from regional district Areas C and D. Squamish is the only contested area this year; the other five trustees were elected without a vote. [source]
Trustees are paid $19,660 a year (the board chair $24,687, the vice chair $21,992), as of January 1, 2026. [source]
