Vote by mail from home

All eligible voters may apply to vote by mail. A good option if getting to a voting place is hard for you.

  1. Complete the Application Form and return it in person at Municipal Hall (37955 Second Avenue) or by email to elections@squamish.ca. Printed forms are available at Municipal Hall. Get the form (PDF).
  2. The District recommends picking up the package in person and returning it directly to Municipal Hall; you are emailed when it is ready. Someone else can pick it up only if named and authorized on your application form, and they must show two pieces of ID including one with a photo.
  3. Must be RECEIVED by 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026 (voter is responsible for ensuring it arrives on time).

Ways to return it:

  • In person at Municipal Hall, 37955 Second Avenue, Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (excluding holidays)
  • Municipal Hall drop box, open 24/7, and open until 8:00 p.m. on General Voting Day
  • By mail or courier to the address on the return envelope (allow enough delivery time)
  • In person or by courier to Brennan Park Recreation Centre, 1009 Centennial Way, on General Voting Day only, up to 8:00 p.m.

Can I vote?

Yes, if all of these are true:

  • 18 years of age or older (at the time of voting)
  • A Canadian citizen (the District notes: no landed immigrants, permanent residents or corporations)
  • A resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration (the District's key dates list March 10 as the last day to meet the 6-month requirement for Oct. 17)
  • A resident of the District of Squamish at the time of registration
  • Not disqualified by law from voting

Not registered? You can register right at the voting place. Qualified who are not on the List of Registered Electors may register at the voting place on voting day by showing at least two separate pieces of identification (one must have a signature) proving identity and residency, and making a solemn declaration of eligibility.

I own property here but live somewhere else

Instead of living in Squamish, you may qualify if you have been the registered owner of real property in the District of Squamish for at least 30 days immediately before registering, and meet the age, citizenship, 6-month BC residency and not-disqualified requirements.

Bring:

  • Two pieces of identification (one must have your signature)
  • Proof of ownership (e.g., a recent Land Title Search Certificate or Certificate of Indefeasible Title)
  • If the property has multiple owners: written consent from the majority of all owners designating you as the one owner who will vote for that property
  • The property must not be held in trust for a corporation or another trust; there is no corporate vote.
  • A non-resident property may vote only once in Squamish regardless of how many properties they own.
  • District tax notices may not show all owners; Land Titles Office documentation is required.
  • The District asks non-resident property to phone the Election Office (604-892-5217) about required documents.

  • BC Identification Card
  • BC Services Card
  • BC CareCard
  • Passport
  • Citizenship Card
  • Social Insurance Card
  • Utility bill for electricity, natural gas, water, telephone or cable
  • Government of Canada document certifying registration under the Indian Act (e.g., status card)
  • Citizenship or membership card issued by a First Nation
  • Citizenship card issued by Metis Nation British Columbia
What’s on the ballot
  • Mayor — vote for 1 of 3. See them
  • Councillors — vote for up to 6 of 15. You may pick fewer, but marking more than 6 spoils that part of your ballot. See them
  • School trustees — vote for up to 2 of 5. See them

Call the Election Office at 604-892-5217 to ask about curbside or special voting; a formal Notice of Election may add these details closer to voting day.
