Put raised crosswalks and new signs on Upper Mamquam Road
Skip to answeringUpper Mamquam Road runs east past Coast Mountain Academy toward the Mamquam area. Residents raised concerns about speeding and a high number of trucks.
The District of Squamish ranked this stretch as its top traffic calming priority. It is on the 2026 traffic calming list.
The plan has changed from speed humps. As of October 2026, the District plans two raised crosswalks and new signs on Mamquam Road east of Aristotle Drive. A raised crosswalk is a crosswalk built up like a wide, flat speed bump.
The District says the contractor expects to build the raised crosswalks on October 29 and 30, 2026, weather permitting, with single lane alternating traffic during the work.

Yes
- Physical changes like raised crossings slow traffic every day, not only when police are present.
- Students and neighbours get safer places to cross on a road with many trucks.
No
- Raised crossings and humps slow emergency vehicles and are hard on heavy trucks that need this road.
- Some would prefer signs, enforcement or other measures that don't change the road surface.
