Build covered outdoor basketball courts
Skip to answeringA roof over outdoor basketball courts would let people play in the rain.
In 2021, residents asked for covered outdoor basketball courts in feedback on the District of Squamish's Brennan Park Fields and Lands Master Plan. The final plan encourages the basketball community to raise money for courts near the existing tennis courts at Brennan Park. It does not include a roof over them.
As of October 2026, we could not find any District budget item for outdoor basketball courts, covered or not.

The case for each answer
The strongest honest case for each side, as people who hold it would put it.
Yes
- Squamish gets a lot of rain. A roof turns a court that sits empty half the year into one used all year.
- Free outdoor courts give teens and adults a place to play without booking gym time.
- A covered court can double as shelter for events and programs.
No
- A roof adds a lot to the cost of a court, and the plan's estimate is for open courts only.
- The plan expects the basketball community to fundraise, and the District has many unfunded recreation needs ahead of this.
- Indoor gym space, which the recreation centre study is already looking at, may serve basketball players better.
