What do the colours mean?
Council meeting The main meeting where council makes official decisions and votes.Council workshop (no final votes) All of council talks an issue through. Nothing is decided here: ideas only count once council confirms them at a later council meeting. Official name: Committee of the Whole.Public hearing Residents can speak to council about a rezoning or bylaw before council decides. Held as part of a council meeting.Special meeting A meeting called outside the regular schedule, with at least 24 hours’ notice. Squamish holds many of these, and some include big decisions, such as budget workshops. Others open only to move behind closed doors.

How council works: readings, the consent agenda, closed meetings and the new council’s first 100 days.

How to watch or speak at a meeting

Go in person: meetings are open to anyone at Council Chambers, Municipal Hall, 37955 Second Avenue. You don’t need to sign up to watch. Council meetings are usually the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m.; council workshops (official name: Committee of the Whole) are usually the 2nd and 4th Tuesday, often in the morning.

Watch from home: meetings are streamed live on the District’s YouTube channel and stay there afterward. Each meeting below links to its own video.

Have your say: you can write to council before a meeting, or speak at a public hearing. The District explains how on its council page.
